Our Mission
Big Smoke Brass is on a mission to spread joy, love and community through high-energy music and performance. In an ever-changing world, live music retains the power to bring people together and create experiences that define and connect us. BSB carries this call to action with duty & pride, fuelled by a relentless passion for music and the magic steeped within its notes & rhythms. Now entering its second decade, Big Smoke Brass is more affirmed than ever in its responsibility to bring people together and imbue every corner of the world with their unique and adrenaline-pumping sound forged through years on the streets and stage. Our History
From the corner of Bay & Bloor to 850+ performances across Canada, Big Smoke Brass has never lost sight of what made them into the musical juggernaut they are today. Diverse musical backgrounds melded into a cohesive brass band sound that was shaped and refined on the streets of Toronto through hundreds of hours playing real, raw, live music for the community. The support from listeners on the streets allowed the band to keep going day after day, and quickly grew into shows at venues and festivals across Toronto and beyond. Those same listeners also began booking the band for numerous events of all kinds, which has allowed Big Smoke Brass to keep up a rigorous performance schedule; always striving to improve the live experience and connection with the audience.
It was only natural to begin writing and recording original music, forever etching BSB’s stamp on the Canadian and global music community - there are few bands contributing as much original music to the brass band canon today. Big Smoke Brass carries this responsibility with honour and pride, and is always striving to give back and share their experience with the music students and band kids of today. BSB has seen firsthand the power their music has, and intends to continue utilizing it to connect and uplift their audiences the world over.
